wiyaǂ ʔa·k̓un yaqsuʔmiǂ building

For the past two weeks, the Grade 7/8s have been carefully constructing an authentic sturgeon nose canoe, wiyaǂ ʔa·k̓un yaqsuʔmiǂ, for the school. They used traditional materials including bittercherry bark, cedar root, cedar and white pine, and no modern tools. This was accomplished under the skilled supervision of Wayne Louis and was made possible by the support of Jenni Jacobs, Yaqan Nukiy's Ktunaxa Language Teacher.
